HTTP Status Code & Definitions

1xx
100 Continue The server has received the request, and that the client should continue.
101 Switching Protocols The server acknowledges the request of the client to change the switch protocol.
102 Processing Request received and is processing
 
2xx Success
200 OK Request completed successfully
201 Created Request fulfilled and created in a new resource
202 Accepted The request has been accepted for processing, but the processing has not been completed.
203 Non-Authoritative Information Request processed successfully but the returning information is gathered from other resource
204 No Content Request processed successfully but retuning without any information
205 Reset Content Request successfully processed but the user agent SHOULD reset the document view
206 Partial Content The server is delivering only part of the resource due to a range header sent by the client.
 
3xx Redirection
300 Multiple Choices Present and future requests should be directed to the given URI.
301 Moved Permanently The requested resource has a new permanent URI and all requests should be directed to the given URI.
302 Found The requested resource resides temporarily under a different URI. Since the redirection might be altered on occasion, the client SHOULD continue to use the Request-URI for future requests.
303 See Other The response to the request can be found under a different URI which can be retrieved using a GET method
304 Not Modified This indicates that the resource for the requested URL has not modified since last accessed or cached. The 304 status code should only be returned if allowed by the client.
305 Use Proxy The requested resource is only accessed through a proxy, wherein address is provided in the response.
307 Temporary Redirect The requested URL has been temporarily redirected to another URL.
308 Permanent Redirect The requested URI and all future requests should be redirected to another URI.
 
4xx Client Error
400 Bad Request The request could not be accessed by the server due to bad syntax
401 Unauthorized The request could net be completed and requires user authentication.
403 Forbidden The indicates that the request is valid, but the server is refusing to respond to it.
404 Not Found The server could not find the requested resource.
405 Method Not Allowed The method specified in the Request-Line is not supported by that resource
406 Not Acceptable The requested resource is only capable of generating content not acceptable according to the Accept headers sent in the request.
407 Proxy Authentication Required This means user must log in (enter user ID and password) with the proxy server first.
408 Request Timeout Server timed out waiting for the request.
409 Conflict Indicates request could not be completed due to conflict in request.
410 Gone Indicates that the requested resource is on loger available with no known forwarding address.
411 Length Required The request is refused by the server due to un specified length of the content.
412 Precondition Failed The request made by the client did not meet one or more preconditions required by the server.
413 Request Entity Too Large This indicates that the request entity is larger than the server is not willing to process
414 Request-URI Too Long The servers could not porcess the request due to long URI
415 Unsupported Media Type The request format is not supported by the server.
416 Requested Range Not Satisfiable The client has asked for a portion of the file, but the server cannot supply that portion because the resource being accessed does not cover this byte range.
417 Expectation Failed The server could not fulfill the Expect request-header field.
422 Unprocessable Entity The request could not be accessed because of semantic errors
423 Locked Access to the resource is locked
 
5xx Server Error
500 Internal Server Error Indicates that the encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request.
501 Not Implemented Either the server does not recognize the request methor or it does not support the functionality to fulfil the request.
502 Bad Gateway This server received an invalid response from an upstream server while acting as a gateway or proxy it accessed to fulfil the request.
503 Service Unavailable This indicates that the server is temporarily not able due to maintenance.
504 Gateway Timeout While acting as a gateway or proxy, the server did not receive a timely response from the upstream server specified by the URI.
505 HTTP Version Not Supported The HTTP protocal version is not supported by the server.
